Hey fellow Rainers and Mac Users! Its been a while but I wanted to share some information on some upgrades I did on my old Macbook Pro to extend its life and performance.

I recently purchased a Macbook Pro. I upgraded from a 2.0 Macbook Pro, Intel Core Duo. I didn't really need the upgrade, but I wanted a Unibody so I decided to purchase a new one.

We all know that macs are more expensive than PCs. This a common myth. Especially when you take into consideration resale and the actual performance and functionality of the machine.

1. I bought through Amazon where I paid 1868.00, didn't have to pay tax and free shipping! I'm already up a few hundred dollars.

2. I was able to sell my old macbook pro for 1,000 on craigslist. Becuase macs hold their value so well, you can get good cash for your used one.

3. My old macbook pro came with a 100 Gig HD and 1 Gig of Memory. I was able to buy to upgrade the memory from Crucial for cheap. I bought a 320 Gigabyte HD from Amazon for 80 dollars (70.00 when I last checked!). A tool kit and manual from Ifixit. By the way, Ifixit has free manuals for just about anything mac related. 150.00 dollars later, I had 2 Gigs of Ram and a much bigger hard drive. It made my macbook that much more valuable when I sold it.

So if your the proud owner of one of these older models, try upgrading the memory and HD. With Time Machine the data can be easily backed up and passed onto the new HD and computer.
