Sync'ing the the Iphone with Google Calendar

CalDavThe ability to set appointments on the fly is crucial in today's real estate and business world. I've always used the Gmail platform for this because its simple to open a browser window, add events, modify them, invite people, etc.

But how about when your on the run with your iphone? Even with a shortcut on your phone, you still have to login to the phone browser and navigate to the calendar. It can be a hassle, especially if your in a meeting and need to add an appointment quickly.

In the past, I sync'ed ical (mac) with the iphone, and google. But it never worked right and I abandoned it after a while. Unless you have use for it, only sync the gmail calendar with the iphone and not the computer calendar since the browser seems to work fine for the purpose of setting appointments and events.

1. Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Other > Add CalDAV Account

2. Under Server, enter www.google.com

3. Under user name, enter the email address you use to access your Google calendar as well as the password.

4. Under Description, type a name of the calendar.

5. Hit next and your done!

Now every time you need to add an appointment or event, you can use your iphone calendar and it will sync with your google calendar. This works even if your firm runs on the google platform and your domain is different than gmail.com!

If you have multiple calendars try setting a default one that will launch upon clicking the calendar app. Goto Mail, Contacts, Calendars > at the bottom choose your default calendar

To sync other calendars that are already sync'ed to your google calendar, goto:Google Calendar Iphone Sync Settings Select the sync'ed calendars and remember to save.

Theoretically the settings should be the same. Try this:

Getting Started

To sync with your device, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings application on your device's home screen.
  2. Open Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  3. Select Add Account...
  4. Select Other.
  5. Select Add CalDAV Account.
  6. Enter your account information:
    • In the Server field, enter [ google.com ]
    • In the Username field, enter your full Google Account or Google Apps email address.
    • In the Password field, enter your Google Account or Google Apps password.
    • In the Description field, enter the name you'd like to appear on the account.
  7. Select Next at the top of your screen.

Curious if you like Google Calendar better than using MobileMe?  I am using MobileMe and syncing the iPad, iPhone and my MacBook Pro and it works well.  Is there something that Google provides that MobileMe doesn't?

Hi Sam, Happy Thanksgiving!

I've been using gmail so long, it just made sense for me. I also like the versatility of gmail, though I'm sure mobileme is just as awesome. I access Google Analytics from my gmail. You can also make free calls from the Gmail browser. I stopped using Apple Mail in favor of the Gmail cloud.

My firm also uses google as their platform, not Exchange. Affordable and serves pretty much the same purpose!

Thanks for the tip, Nogui!  I just set it up on my iPhone, and it worked perfectly.

I haven't switched to Google calendar yet, but I did migrate my firm over to Google Apps mail. Love having the mail in the cloud!

Nogul, Thanks for the explanation.  I haven't used Gmail or the Gmail calendar yet and have been running exclusively on the MobileMe system and so far so good.  I have so many friends who are using Google calendar and syncing it with their Real Pro Systems website and they all rave about it.  Thanks again!
